1. What is an ABI?
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is any damage in the brain that occurs after birth and is not related to congenital disorder, a developmental disability or a process which progressively damages the brain. There are two main types of ABI: Traumatic brain injuries is damage to the brain caused by external force, such as an impact to the head during a motor vehicle accident, sports injury , fall or severe shaking. Non-traumatic brain are caused by disease or oxygen deprivations, such as near drowning/suffocation/choking, disruption of blood supply to the brain, inhaling or ingesting toxins and or inflammation or brain membranes (meningitis).

3. When do we meet?
HABI meets the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Centre Fellowship Church in Orangeville (375 Hansen Blvd, Orangeville).
4. What does HABI do?
HABI has monthly support group meetings providing an opportunity for people living with the effects of an ABI and their families to offer and receive mutual support, ABI education, social connection through group activities and involvement in community public awareness events.
5. Who would come to the HABI meetings?
Any one living with the effects of an ABI and their family members or caregivers. Our service area is Dufferin County, including Orangeville, Shelburne and surrounding areas, but our doors are open to everyone from any where!
